"I feel the need to explain why an American Flag painted on a piece of cracked glass and a box of 4
inch nails (Lost In Translation) have reason to appear in this body of work together. I always find
talking about 9/11 a very delicate issue when so much suffering is associated with this event.
I thought that nothing can represent this tragedy better than an American flag painted on a cracked
piece of glass. It is also true that since this historical episode American policies have managed to split
public opinion around the world and within America itself.
The cube shape of “Lost In Translation” represents the KAABA in Holy Mecca with nails being a
favourite shrapnel of suicide bombers. The monument appears as if symbolically hit by a missile
attack with a corner crumbling away but at close inspection it looks as if is exploding from within
pointing to the destructive effects of fanaticism."
