Mauro Perucchetti is an Italian sculptor best known for his brightly colored resin objects. The artist’s smooth, translucent sculptures take on a multitude of shapes, including the Pillsbury Doughboy, dollar bills, heart-shaped earrings, flying pigs, pill capsules, and skulls. In the tradition of Pop artists like Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons, Perucchetti focuses on topical issues like cloning, Barbie dolls, and globalism using modified and reproduced cultural objects to question societal norms. “My art is the result of a cocktail of passions,” the artist has said, “passion at a much more physical and instinctive level, something I can’t describe, some kind of powerful and empowering mix of adrenalin and endorphin which needs to come out. And, finally, a passion for aesthetics.” Born in 1949 in Milan, Italy, Perucchetti’s works are in the collections of the Gateway Foundation in St. Louis and the Wellcome Trust in London, among others. He lives and works in London, United Kingdom.
